We were instructed to use the camera in Manual mode rather than using Auto mode. Manual mode allowed me to work independently with the camera and figure out how to adjust the shutter speed and the aperture to achieve the perfect picture or video. It was all about learning about the lighting and how natural lighting would affect the image and therefore was important to adjust the aperture and shutter speed.
The biggest advantage of shooting in manual mode is that it lets you take creative control over aperture and shutter speed, and just brightness in general.

The steps of putting the settings into manual mode on a DLSR Camera is by rotating the mode dial, which is usually at the top right hand side, to point to M . Some of the models may have the mode dial at the top left hand side. This settings allows me to have complete control over the image I am trying to capture.
