Film Noir Production in Editing

This evidence I have recorded whilst editing my Film Noir short scene, ensures that my recorded footage reflects the generic conventions of a Film Noir and how meaning was created through lighting. 

Whilst editing all of our recorded footage on Final Cut Pro, some of the footage on our project needed lighting adjustments as I wanted convey meaning through lighting. I had done this evidently in both videos by pressing Ctrl 6 on the keyboard. This is specifically to be done on Macs to bring up the colour panel up on the screen. Firstly, I had clicked on the clip that I wanted to adjust the colour on with my cursor and played with the effects. I clicked on exposure and moved some of the settings down to achieve a darker image. I wanted to achieve this darker image particularly at this point as it had conveyed a a moment of darkness within the charters motives. As she goes to pick up the gun, we see that when Ava is portrayed, she is revealed darker than before. The low key lighting creates shadows, These represent the fear of the unknown, we do not know what Ava is capable of and what her motives are. Making the exposure darker creates enigmas and questions the characters ulterior motives.

In the second video, I wanted to show that the third character in the scene with Ava and Dre, is seen coming up the stairs were a a danger and threat to them both. I wanted to use lighting to convey there was a sense of danger and that the audience should be wary of him. The video of me editing between 1:42-1:55 seconds, shows that i have added a 'Bloom' effect over the clip to create rapid flashing orange, yellow and red undertones. The colour red is associated with strength, power and revenge which is all that he is identified as. This is a warning mark that he (Pablo) is after Ava and that he is the cause of Ava's death that is mentioned at 3:53 seconds. The bloom lighting foresees the danger of the past.
